My Mum Was Right

Before I left Nepal for my first international trip, my mum gave me a piece of advice.

She didn't tell me what to buy.

She didn't tell me where to visit.

She simply smiled and said,

"Don't think about home too much. Go and enjoy yourself. Make every moment memorable."

At the time, it sounded like something every parent says.

But during the trip, I kept remembering those words.

Every photograph.

Every new experience.

Every unfamiliar place.

I realised she wasn't just talking about Bali.

She was talking about life.

Be present.

Create memories.

Don't spend so much time worrying that you forget to live.

It's funny.

As children, we think our parents are giving us ordinary advice.

Years later, we realise they were quietly teaching us how to live.

She was right.

Again.
